PSOs now eligible for National Medal (11/13)

The Police Association is pleased to advise that the Chief Commissioner's Office has notified his intention to support the award of the National Medal to PSOs who qualify.

After over a decade of lobbying on behalf of our Protective Services Officer members, The Police Association is pleased to advise that the Chief Commissioner's Office has notified his intention to support the award of the National Medal to PSOs who qualify.

The Chief Commissioner is satisfied that, with the advent of the National Police Service Medal, PSO members should receive the National Medal, where appropriate.

There is no indication, as yet, when the awarding of the National Medal to PSOs will begin and PSOs should be aware that the process is conducted through the office of the Governor General and often takes time for eligible members to receive medals, even after their qualifying period has been achieved.

However, we are pleased that the first, and highest, hurdle is now behind us and we congratulate the Chief Commissioner on his decision.

For further information, members should contact our Legal / Discipline Section on 9468 2600.
